It seems like there are new wrench and socket designs that are always coming out claiming to be the best for removing tight or rusted nuts and bolts. Another group of wrenches and sockets exists that are said to be good for any nut or bolt that is rounded, damaged, or also in good condition. We’ve seen some with small moving teeth, rods, rounded edges, and more. But what about the most common three types of box end wrenches and sockets? We’re talking about 12-point, 6-point, and splined box end wrenches and sockets.

Today we look at the performance difference between 12-point, 6-point and spline box end wrenches and sockets on soft and rounded fasteners. Because for as long as I can remember there’s been plenty of debate about each, without much testing or data to say one way or another for sure. Was surprised by some of the results on this one, sometimes a design you may question just doesn’t care about your opinion and brings the beans.
